The Importance of Water

Water is at the very heart of our existence. In addition to supporting the planet’s climates and
ecosystems, it is essential to human activities such as food production, energy generation and
transportation.

No less importantly, water makes up an incredible 70% of the human body, playing a key role in
functions such as digestion, body temperature regulation and elimination of waste through
urination and defecation. It also helps lubricate our joints and keeps our skin looking firm and
healthy.

The importance of clean drinking water

Clean water allows our kidneys to eliminate metabolic and toxic waste such as undigested food
and residual drugs while maintaining the water–salt balance that our bodies require. Purified
water, which is free of harmful contaminants such as nitrates, pesticides, plastics and lead, is
the best option for human consumption.

Unfortunately, water pollution is all too common and has serious consequences, including mass
mortality events (the sudden death of a large number of animals) and endocrine disorders.*
Drinking polluted water can lead to health issues such as stomach aches, diarrhea, vomiting,
gastroenteritis, hepatitis and encephalitis, as well as reproductive and neurological problems.

Thankfully, groups such as The Blue Organization are working hard to reduce water pollution,
from the depths of the oceans to the tips of icebergs. The non-profit holds clean-up events
throughout the year, as well as a variety of experiences aimed at youth and entire communities.
In April 2023, for every product sold, ACTUMUS will donate $1 to The Blue Organization to
support them in this vital work.
